Victor Velez
Meet Victor Velez, our new Pastor.
Victor has been in ministry for over 25 years working in the Midwest churches in children, youth and music ministries. His involvement in ministry began at age 13, leading worship at senior centers. He caught a passion for ministry, leading worship and preaching at senior centers and later, when he went to college, led worship at senior centers, homeless shelters, and in local church youth and music programs.
He is an accomplished musician, a composer and studio musician. He is also a screenwriter and filmmaker in his spare time. In his mid-twenties, he accepted his first full-time church staff position in youth and music ministries. He continued his passion for volunteering at homeless shelters, prison ministry, and senior centers. He met the love of his life at 28, a youth minister herself! They both attended seminary together, and soon were married and blessed with 5 beautiful children! Those children are now adults, and they have ministered alongside them for many years in music, drama and puppet ministries. In 2007, his wife passed away from cancer.
In 1991, Victor graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Piano Performance from Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma. In 2005, he graduated with a Master of Arts in Religious Studies degree at Central Baptist Theological Seminary, in Kansas City, Kansas.
Today, Victor considers being a father to his grown children and grandfather to his three grandchildren as his first, most important vocation and ministry as a close second!
He brings many years of ministry experience in building quality programs, creative arts and volunteer-management, as well as a great love for children, teens, and adults of all ages. His favorite writers are George MacDonald and C.S. Lewis, and one of his most defining Bible verses is from Romans 12:1, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God…”
He is excited to begin a new season of ministry at Central Baptist Church!
